FALCON FLY-BY- JANUARY 15, 2010

NO SCHOOL ON MONDAY JANUARY 18!
JANUARY 29 IS A MINIMAL DAY FOR STUDENTS-OUT @ 12:45

  1. SAFETY: We have resolved the #1 safety concern that the Safety Committee and staff had, which is the west parking lot being used to drop-off and pick-up students. We will soon have signs posted as reminders. Thank you for your support in strengthening the safety of our students.
  2. Parent-Teacher Conferences ar fast approaching: January 27, 3:45 to 7 pm (please be in line by 6:45 pm) and January 28 from 4 to 7:30 pm (please be in line by 7 pm). The ending times are when I am supposed to be "shooing" the teachers out of the school. KINDER: our requests are: A. Mrs. Ward's morning class parents come on Wednesday and her afternoon class parents on Thursday: B. Mrs Andrews parents need to come on Wednesday; she will not be at Horace Mann on Thursday; and C. Mrs Williams will be scheduling her Parent Teacher Conferences. The majority of parents seem to favor the "drop-in" schedules rather than having appointments, so we will continue with that format.
  3. ROAD TO SUCCESS/TEADING: We have scheduled an magician to perform in May after we reach our goal of 1.5 million minutes of reading. We are currently having a reading contest. Next Thursday night January 21, we have a Family Literacy Night from 5-6:40 pm.
  4. FEBURARY: Parent Night for the 4th will be handled via a packet of information from teachers=no night meeting. 15th is President's Day=no school.

Children are like wet cement. Whatever falls on them makes an impression.

1) Reminder to our parents/drivers: because of so many students being checked out the last hour of school for appointments, Mrs. Brown is now requesting a doctor/dentist, etc, note when the student returns to school, usually the next day. Please give it to the secretary, Mrs. Durrant.
2) If your child is too ill to go outside, we must have a note from a parent or guardian. If this request continues beyond two school days, we will need a doctor's note regarding their illness.
3) This week we will send out our first notes for tutoring after school. If you receive one for your child, please complete it immediately and have the student return it to his/her teacher. We will be starting very soon.
4) AFTER-SCHOOL ACTIVITES: we have four adults who have volunteered time and talent to support our after-school learning activities. We will be starting some art; hopefully, a school paper; some games such as checkers, UNO; and card making.
